Elwood Bish is the gentleman that has been the Pres. of Harbourmaster Assoc. for over 20 years. He's singlehandedly kept the 63 unit community clean, orderly and repaired. The former boss of a heavy construction company that ran rebar (is that the way it's spelled???) for bridges ...he's still the boss and the reason Harbourmaster is a 30 year old property in great shape. Elwood's 80 y/o, ...has fought his way back from a stroke and his wife, Naomi, a breast cancer survivor (that proudly tells you about her 3 "hole in one"'s) are a precious pair. Last week at the annual meeting, in a vote for Pres., he was beaten by one vote. The issue really wasn't Elwood, but an amendment that wasn't well received, hence, he became the target for the disagreeing factions. After all those years and all his work, I was concerned about him. He came in the store and we had a good chat. I asked him, in light of the vote and his huge contribution over the years, how was he doing ??? He said, " fine...and that's not the point. (...and here comes the lesson.) There's still work to be done."
Completely "rising above"...selfless...able to see the big picture,...caring about others and what really counts, and yes, still caring about getting the job done!!!......I thought, what an example. I'm impressed......someday, that's the kind of 80 y/o I want to be. PS...ever the boss, he has a meeting Monday to see what can be done to help the board. PSS.....Elwood knows that I always have a six pack of his favorite in the frig and a frosted mug in the freezer for him.....no ice;)
Did get to dinner and a movie tonight with Glenda. We saw Leatherheads. It's a fun, lightweight rom-com. ...a nice evening.
DanaMarie and Brian have finished up 4 weeks of nonstop work and have arrived safely at their "all inclusive" resort for a week of R&R somewhere near Cozumel. Hope they are enjoying their share of "umbrella drinks!" They deserve them.
