 4/21/08 "Oh dear,...

Took Opal to the vet today. In the last six month I've noticed her cataracts have really become a problem, so time for her senior citizen, golden girl check up. Dr. Rebacca confirmed my concerns and says Miss Opal probably doesn't see shadows.

Sooooooo, $352.02 later...we did all the blood work to check and see how her little kidneys, liver and heart are doing. Then we'll determine if she's healthy and could tolerate the procedure. She's so sweet and if she can live another 3-5 years, I think we'll do it. There's a canine ophthamologist in Savannah. I know what you're thinking...$$$...trust me...you don't want to know

Otherwise, a good cleaning day.
DWTS tonight!
Love, Sue

 4/20/08 CHECK!

Hallelujah!  Mission accomplished...have completed the required 48 hours of ceu's to get things together for the Bd. of Nursing. Now to submit them and jump through the hoops of documentation.  It will be fun checking that one off my to-do list  !

It was a beautiful day...worked in a couple hours of sun  .  Signs of summer coming are appearing...the turtles are sunning, flowers blooming and the old guy down the street sprinkling his lawn (in his Speedo!  That's unpleasant...but hey, he's happy and summer's coming )

It was a great day to chat and get caught up with some of my favorite people. Talked with Sis...she's doing great.  We're chatting away and she says, "Opps, gotta go deliver a baby!  Bye Momma."  My little girl .  Had another great chat...with Bruce.  He's working hard...heading into summertime events.  I keep telling him that they need good attorneys on HHI...no luck. The good news...he visits! Got to talk with Pam...she's good... gave me an update on DanaMarie and Brian...and I got to say Hi to Buckeye . A good long chat with Cindy and I feel all caught up.

Tomorrow will be busy...........
Have a great week.
Much love, Sue

 4/19/08 Elwood...a lesson learned.

Elwood Bish is the gentleman that has been the Pres. of Harbourmaster Assoc. for over 20 years. He's singlehandedly kept the 63 unit community clean, orderly and repaired. The former boss of a heavy construction company that ran rebar (is that the way it's spelled???) for bridges ...he's still the boss and the reason Harbourmaster is a 30 year old property in great shape. Elwood's 80 y/o, ...has fought his way back from a stroke and his wife, Naomi, a breast cancer survivor (that proudly tells you about her 3 "hole in one"'s) are a precious pair. Last week at the annual meeting, in a vote for Pres., he was beaten by one vote. The issue really wasn't Elwood, but an amendment that wasn't well received, hence, he became the target for the disagreeing factions. After all those years and all his work, I was concerned about him. He came in the store and we had a good chat. I asked him, in light of the vote and his huge contribution over the years, how was he doing ??? He said, " fine...and that's not the point. (...and here comes the lesson.) There's still work to be done."

Completely "rising above"...selfless...able to see the big picture,...caring about others and what really counts, and yes, still caring about getting the job done!!!......I thought, what an example. I'm impressed......someday, that's the kind of 80 y/o I want to be. PS...ever the boss, he has a meeting Monday to see what can be done to help the board. PSS.....Elwood knows that I always have a six pack of his favorite in the frig and a frosted mug in the freezer for him.....no ice;)

Did get to dinner and a movie tonight with Glenda. We saw Leatherheads. It's a fun, lightweight rom-com. ...a nice evening.

DanaMarie and Brian have finished up 4 weeks of nonstop work and have arrived safely at their "all inclusive" resort for a week of R&R somewhere near Cozumel. Hope they are enjoying their share of "umbrella drinks!" They deserve them.

Guess that's it for this week...boy am I thankful to be here!...
fashion show...done!....seminar...done!
Now to take back the mink coat to Hospice on Monday...darn.
Have a blessed Sunday.
Love, Sue

 4/18/08 TFM...

Can I tell you how good it was to work at the store today? Walking definitely beats sitting!!!

Over my lunch...returned all the clothes today to the Hospice Thrift Store. Was able to give them $275.00 that we made from the sale of clothes at the fashion show. May not sound like much...but keep in mind, items were priced at $3-$10 each. They were pleased.

The island is busy with visitors/guests in for the Heritage. Will work tomorrow because of the increased business.

Popped over to the see A Cappella tonight. It was an evening of music from various groups in the area. The choir from church sang. Met two girlfriends afterward. The choir did a good job...but there was a heavy dose of Barbershoppers...good grief. That is the equivalent of auditory cruel and unusual punishment!

It's really getting pretty outside. Am planning on heading to the beach on Sunday afternoon if the weather holds. Dinner and a movie with a girlfriend tomorrow night.

Hope all is well.
Much love, Sue

 4/17/08 YYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

DONE!!! Yeah... Thank heavens! 34.5 ceu's and I have the "all important" certificate to prove that my backside was in the chair for four days. Sitting is just not pleasant . The very thought of working at TFM and "walking the store" tomorrow sounds terrific .

The speakers yesterday and today were much better than Monday and Tuesday. The upside...met some neat gals and also became comfortable taking the "back roads" to Savannah. It'd very do-able and I want to tap into the area and learn more about the city. It's really charming.

The seminar was interesting. Actually, I was a bit surprised...there really was not much in the way of info that I wasn't aware of thru my reading. Much of the material I read went into a lot more depth.

Now I can work on getting my SC nursing license.
Back to the roses in the morning.
It'll be busy...Heritage Golf Classic is in full swing.

Thanks for putting up with my whining!
Much love, Sue
